Boost Sales This Long Weekend With An ‘Australia Day’ Theme For Your Home

With what seems like thousands of websites on home loans and real estate manuals dedicated to ways the average punter can make their home stand out to buyers, we thought it might be high time to come up with a way to turn your bachelor pad or beach side bungalow into a truly Australian home.

And while some people may have their doubts about the need to ‘add value’ to a detached dwelling by way of a wraparound balcony in imitation of a Queenslander, it is only fitting in the lead-up to our national day to come up with new ways to sell property this long weekend – it would be un-Australian not to take the Friday off work!

So here it is – a list of things you can do to celebrate January 26 just in a bona fide, true blue, dinky dye Aussie way.

First and foremost, it is important to ensure you have your priorities in order and make a note of having an open-space for outdoor entertaining.

After all the reason so many of us want to come home after a few years spent working in the likes of London, New York and Paris isn’t because we prefer the food or dare we say culture, it is almost 100 per cent to do with lifestyle.

It is hard to find a place anywhere in this wonderful world of ours that has sun almost all year round, large backyards and close proximity to your choice of white sandy beaches.

So take advantage of the great outdoors and bring them into your living room, open your kitchen to the back porch, set up a barbecue alongside the family pool and make sure you invite the neighbours around for a sausage sanga with extra tomato sauce.

Just remember that if the heat becomes overbearing, you can always retreat to your basement gaming room that comes complete with pool table, a vintage pin-ball machine and state-of-the art entertainment unit – that’s right, on plus 30 degree days everyone knows there is nothing better than flicking on the TV and lying in front of the air-conditioning unit while watching the cricket.

Another important tip is to forget about trying to make your corner of the world smell like freshly roasted coffee beans because while this may help drive sales, it won’t impress your mates.

Instead, make sure you have enough food, beer and rock music on hand to get everyone in the mood.
